Headquartered in Blaine, Minnesota, our client offers estimating, pipe fabrication and material supplies to Contractors in the Water Works Industry.
Position Overview:
The Estimator position is responsible for identifying, reviewing and bidding on projects, ensuring quotes are compliant with terms and conditions of plans and specifications. Prepares comprehensive job analysis, proposals and bid preparation for contracting prospects. Utilizes “value engineering” principles, with the customer in mind, while using costing knowledge of company services in analyzing job requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the “full-cycle” of estimating potential projects, including identifying upcoming projects, determining if the job is a good fit for the company, assemble, price and submittal of bid to contractors and monitoring the full-cycle of the contract bid through contract award.
Specific responsibilities include the following;
· Develops and submits project proposals that are accurate and timely, 48 hours prior to bid letting, based on plans and specifications for the project.
· Conducts initial analysis of drawings and specifications to ensure required documentation is present.
· Engages in pre-contract plan clarification and/or perform research.
· Monitors for and incorporates addendums into bid documents.
· Develops full-scope estimates based on project documents.
· Collaborates with project representatives to learn about contracts needs and requirements to provide bids.
· Coordinates with Suppliers to obtain pricing/quotes on materials prior to submitting estimate to contractors.
· Maintains bid database including wins, losses, and leads from agencies and contract listings.
· Identifies and develops new business and customers through networking.
· Creates presentations and maintains customer relationships through client visits.
· Supports company’s presence in the industry.
· Identifies and maintains pricing and performance records/data.
· Maintains database (accessible) of communications with contractors and engineers.
· Responds to customer requests in a timely manner.
· Performs miscellaneous/additional job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required (Must Have): Technical and Professional Expertise
· 3+ years estimating in H2O “Water” Industry.
· 3+ years using business tools: Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Bluebeam (Adobe or similar).
· Strong attention to detail.
· Excellent communication skills. Can read and write at a college level. Can communicate well verbally to an audience.
· Complete work withing specified timeframe, including deadlines.
Preferred (Nice to Have): Technical and Professional Expertise
- 3+ years working in “Water Works” Industry.
· 2+ years’ experience in estimating.
Technical Competencies:
· Uses processes and technology to improve the quality and efficiency of service or production; follows processes well.
· Can maintain and grow technical knowledge and expertise. Is accurate, precise and pays attention to detail.
· Understands and can use basic math skills, including fractions and decimals.
· Can create a spreadsheet report or produce a query using appropriate tools.
· Can read plans, follow specifications and cross reference specifications.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires:
· Frequent(Up to 8 hours per day) sitting and repetitive motion, hand/wrist movement associated with computer use.
· Moderate(up to 4 hours per day) bending, pulling, climbing stairs, reaching, lifting, and grasping.
· Sensory Requirements: Good eyesight, normal hearing, ability to speak clearly and to be understood in the English language.
Working Conditions:
· Indoors, office setting. Periodic visits to the manufacturing area of the facility.
· Travel is minimal (less than 5%) and when it occurs will be by car and/or airplane.
Work Schedule:
· This position usually works for 8-10 hours during the period between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm, Monday through Friday. However, additional hours of work are required during peak business times.
